Great Doccombe Farm
Great Doccombe Farm was built around 1560, is a typical Devon Long house and may originally have consisted of a long, single-storey granite structure with a central 'cross-passage' dividing it into two rooms. One was occupied by the human inhabitants; their animals were kept in the other, especially during winter.
The Elizabethan farmhouse has, of course, changed hugely over the years, but it retains much of the character of a Devon Longhouse, and the ground floor bedroom with ensuite bathroom is currently let for B and B. (see link).
We have 2 English Springer Spaniels, free-range chickens and ducks, and a prize-winning flock of pedigree Shetland Sheep who will be lambing in April (Fleeces and skins are usually available for sale) Shetland sheep.
